When I was a teenager, my science teacher disclosed the mechanics behind which caterpillars become butterflies. Ever since, butterflies have become a symbol of horror to me rather than beauty. For those unfamiliar, caterpillars do not actually become butterflies. Caterpillars are born with a set of dormant cells on their backs; inside the cocoon, those cells wake and devour the caterpillar in order to grow the butterfly.

What does this have to do with me? I feel like I’m in that cocoon and I’ll be honest, I’m not sure if I’m the caterpillar or the butterfly.

The Good

I am still writing! I’ve moved to shorter-form projects at the moment because that works better with my health, and my first published poem is due to appear in Small Wonders Magazine next month.

It has taken me five years, but I have finished editing my standalone mystery, Speak Not of Murder! But…

The Bad

…I have decided not to pursue publication for it. With my health the way it is, self-publishing is not feasible and given my experience with my current publisher, I doubt I will find a publisher willing to work on a disabled schedule. Let alone provide the resources it needs considering that we would have to work around my limitations when promoting the book. If you’re a fan and you want to read this book, email harmony(at)harmonywilliams(dot)com and tell me your preferred ebook format (PDF, EPUB, MOBI) and I’ll send you a copy once it’s all formatted.

The Ugly

You may have inferred that this means I am not going to be writing any more Lady Katherine books. Unfortunately, this is true. Please direct all inquiries about the series to Leighann Dobbs.

On top of the pain of fibromyalgia, over the past several years I have been working with a neurologist to try to cure chronic migraines caused by screen use. Nothing we’ve tried thus far has worked, which leaves me in the unenviable position of just…not using screens. In the 21st century, this is very awkward. It’s the primary reason why editing has taken so long. I can use a laptop for maybe 20 minutes a day; any longer, and I risk being in bed for multiple days with a migraine.

This is why I have withdrawn from all social media permanently. I have also shut down my newsletter. The only place to receive updates about future publications is this website.

I know this news will disappoint some readers. It disappoints me, if I’m honest. But I hope you will learn to love my short form pieces as much as you do my novels!
